Apply a small bead of seam sealer against the edge of the carpet gripper. Pull the edge of the carpet away from the carpet gripper. Step 5 - Lay Carpet in Carpet Gripperĭiscard the cut off piece of carpet. Using the carpet or utility knife, cut the carpet ¼ inch from the edge of the carpet gripper. Fold the carpet back upon itself so that it is flush with the edge of the carpet gripper against the other flooring material. Use the carpet stretcher to stretch the carpet up to where the transition is being used. Make sure the angled tacks are pointed back towards the carpeted room so they will grip the carpet. You should use one nail for every 4 to 8 inches. Use the proper type of nails to secure it to the floor. Place the carpet gripper so that it sits on the floor against the material being transitioned to. Adjust the location of your mark as necessary and make your cut very carefully so as not to split or otherwise damage your carpet gripper. Set the carpet gripper across the area being spanned and compare the location of your saw mark with that location. Using the proper type of saw, make a very small mark in the underside of the carpet gripper where your mark is. Doing this will ensure that if you don’t cut through and obliterate your mark, it will not show when installed. When measuring the carpet gripper, make sure you make your cut marks on the bottom side. If the location is wide, you should have someone help you in order to ensure complete accuracy. Measure the location where your carpet gripper will be located. In order to ensure the accuracy of your measurements and cut, you should take each measurement at least twice.
